May 7, 2009
The senate voted to approve a new bill that would establish a Nationwide Mortgage Fraud Task Force modeled after the current task force in Miami-Dade County.
The Nationwide Task Force will operate under the direction of the U. S. Attorney General and will focus on mortgage fraud in the U.S. The Task Force will include participants from federal, state and local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies and enforce federal and state mortgage fraud laws.
The Act, Helping Families Save Their Homes Act of 2009, was introduced and moved forward by Senators Bill Nelson and Congressman Kendrick Meek of Florida, Senator Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut and Congressman John Conyers, Jr. of Michigan.
