Appraiser Challenges Charges

A California appraiser is being investigated after some of the 200 properties he appraised have fallen to foreclosure. His attorney says the values are accurate.
Kirk “Mark” Newton appraised more than 200 properties for the Crisp and Cole real estate team and several of those properties’ transactions are being scrutinized by the FBI in a criminal real estate fraud investigation.
The Office of Real Estate Appraisers had filed an accusation against Newton earlier this month, claiming he misstated measurements, which inflated home values.
