Bad Advice Leads to Guilty Plea
|
| |
April 21, 2009
The attorney representing a couple who pleaded guilty to mortgage fraud said that it was bad advice that led to the mortgage brokerage owners committing a crime.
John Michael Dimitrion, 33, and his wife Julie Ann Baldueza Dimitrion, 37, pleaded guilty to fraud and money laundering yesterday. Two former employees of their company Mortgage Alliance have pleaded guilty as well.
The Dimitrion's defense claims the pair had originated over 1,000 loans properly but when they began dealing with foreclosure help, people had given them bad advice, they came up with creative solutions and that's when the fraud happened.
Three homes went into foreclosure. One of the three family's filed a lawsuit against the Dimitrions, which allowed them to stay in their home -- the other two weren't so lucky.
The Dimitrion's face up to 15 years in prison and maximum fines of $500,000.
