February 12, 2009
The self-professed mortgage fraudster who confessed to his involvement in about $1 billion fraudulent mortgage loans -- then fled by private jet -- has been apprehended.
Christopher J. Warren was caught at the Canadian/Buffalo, N.Y. border trying to re-enter the U.S. He was caught with $1 million in Swiss bank certificates, $70,000 stuffed in his shoes and four ounces of platinum, valued at more than $1,000 per ounce.
Warren is the second of three fugitives to be apprehended on charges relating to an investigation mortgage fraud that resulted in at least $100 million in fraudulent loans.
Officials said Warren and coconspirator Scott Cavell had pitched a radio talk show before they fled the country to avoid prosecution. The demo recording promoted their company Triduanum Financial and encouraged investors to contact them for real estate purchases and financing.
