Ten people charged with operating a foreclosure rescue scam are challenging the accusation. Five of the defendants were involved in a previous case that was dismissed.
The District Attorney's office said the defendants tricked over 400 homeowners in danger of foreclosure into paying up-front fees and/or signing over their property deeds. They ran the scheme under the guise of a federal land grant company, officials said.
If convicted, the defendants face up to 25 years in prison.
