Foreclosure Scam Victim Loses Home

March 10, 2009
After trusting a friend's referral to use a company that supposedly helped homeowners fight foreclosure and paying them $10,000, a family found out their home was being auctioned and there was nothing they could do to stop it.
Eddy Herrera said he paid lawyer Mitch Roth, $1,500 a month while he believed Roth and company associates were negotiating lower payments with the lender. Herrera was told to stop payng his lender and instead send the $1500 payment to a foreclosure relief company called United First, he said.
Seven months and $10,000 later, the house was auctioned -- the same day they were informed that the house would be auctioned off just a half hour later.
A 17News investigation revealed that Roth and United First are under investigation.
