Plea Agreement Turns Fraudster into Informant
|
| |
February 5, 2009
A Maryland landlord was busted in 2001 for participating in a $3 million mortgage fraud scheme that resulted in 70 homes falling into foreclosure. As part of his plea, he began to help the Feds convict several mortgage fraud conspirators as an informant providing prosecutors with valuable information.
Mike Bogdan dodged at least five years in federal prison by agreeing to cooperate with investigators who were targeting mortgage fraud and flipping schemes in what was called Baltimore's "low-cost inner city real estate."
After years of snitching on his coconspirators in the real estate and finance arena, Bogdan took to the ball fields. An avid baseball fan, Bogdan transitioned his career as a snitch into the sports arena. He recorded phone calls with ballplayers, wore a wire to meetings and ordered steroids and human growth hormone as an undercover informant. Information Bogdan gathered led to grand jury investigations, government raids, and the felony conviction of ballplayer Kirk Radomski.
