The Department of Justice is redirecting its Corporate Fraud Task Force towards mortgage fraud investigation to help combat the current housing crisis.
The task force is adding six additional federal agencies; the Federal Housing Finance Agency; the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the special inspector general of the Troubled Asset Relief Program. The task force, originally created in 2002 by President George W. Bush to tackle corporate fraud, is said to be "uniquely suited to tackle mortgage fraud at the corporate level and to determine when law-enforcement actions are appropriate."
