A California man indicted for participating in a $12 million mortgage fraud scheme has apparently changed his mind about pleading guilty. The judge, however, said the plea sticks.
Edward Seung Ok, after pleading guilty, decided he’d prefer a trial. The judge said there was no defect in his guilty plea and it stands so now the lawyers are calculating restitution and sentence recommendation.
Ok was accused of taking advantage of homeowners facing foreclosure and duping them into transferring the deed to their home to a “co-signer” with good credit so they could obtain a short-term loan to enable them to keep their home. After the loan was obtained, Ok and others too the money and ran.
