February 23, 2009
Ex-convicts and public housing residents who were solicited to participate in a $10 million mortgage fraud scheme were told they would be helping save people's home from foreclosure.
David Moore, 40, a defendant in the case is accused of making multiple presentations to halfway house residents as part of his recruitment program. June Persoud, 45, who pleaded not guilty is accused of falsely verifying employment for the straw buyers.
Most of the subprime mortgages purchased in 2006 and 2007 are now in default or foreclosure.
