February 16, 2009
A husband and wife who run a mortgage company that ranked fourth in best small business in Hawaii to work for have been indicted on charges of mortgage fraud.
John M. Dimitrion and his wife Julie A. B. Dimitrion, along with Rick Kealoha Pa Jr. and Benjamin Yoshito Thompson have been accused of defrauding homeowners and lending institutions in an alleged foreclosure rescue scheme through the couple's company Mortgage Alliance LLC.
Over a two year period, $1.3 million in mortgage loans were fraudulently obtained, prosecutors charge. If convicted, all four face up to 20 years in prison on four separate charges. Last May, five other people were indicted in the same case -- John Gilbert Mendoza, Antonio Alcantara Jr., Ira Altwegg, Albert A. Alimoot Jr. and Evan M. Koizumi.
