|

May 8, 2009
A California woman was duped into giving almost $12,000 to a man who claimed to be a mortgage broker. The mystery man is nowhere to be found after convincing the homeowner to wire funds and overnight checks made payable to him.
Gale Dixon Brown said she is talking about the incident so others might learn from her experience with an alleged fraudster. Brown was seeking to refinance her home in Chico, Calif. when she contacted a supposed mortgage broker in from Mortgage Management Consultants, Inc.
The company told Brown that they cannot reach "Bobby," the man she had been giving money to for the refinance and that he was just a volunteer that worked there.
