Midwest Tightening Mortgage Fraud Laws

Officials from Missouri and Kansas are aiming to head-off increasing mortgage fraud with new legislation to toughen the federal mortgage fraud laws.
Kansas has seen mortgage fraud crimes almost double. The state's U.S. Representive, Dennis Moore, and Attorney General, Steve Six, held a mortgage fraud news conference in Kansas City, Kan. along with Missouri Attorney General Kris Koster.
Moore announced his support for new legislation for stricter mortgage fraud laws. The FBI also attended the conference to warn of new forms of mortgage fraud, which include foreclosure rescue scams and refinance fraud.
