An Atlanta contractor has been indicted on multiple charges of fraud including mortgage fraud, in which he had been ordered to pay restitution of nearly $900,000.
Vernon Menifee, 39, has been accused of falsely claiming that there were no pending judgments against him when he applied for a mortgage loan from Countrywide in 2007. Menifee has been charged with a total of 44 counts of aiding and abetting wire fraud.
If convicted, Menifee faces up to hundreds of years in prison. In connection to the mortgage fraud crime alone, he would face up to 35 years in prison.
