January 29, 2009
A family of seven was found dead after a California couple were accused of falsifying income records to qualify for a childcare program.
Officials believe Ervin Lupoe had killed his wife, five children and himself shortly after being fired from his hospital job. Lupoe’s wife, Ana Lupoe, was also fired for allegedly forging a supervisor’s signature on an application for childcare.
A spokesperson for the hospital said the couple was fired “because in the healthcare field, records are an important part of the process and people trust us with their health.”
Sources told police that the couple each made about $40 an hour as radiological techs at the hospital but were making it appear that they made between $7 and $10 an hour.
The couple did have some financial difficulties, according to the police, and told family members that they were relocating to Kansas. Ervin Lupoe, however, reportedly called his wife’s brother and confessed to killing the family.
