New York LO Pleads Not Guilty

Prosecutors said a Garden City, N.Y. loan officer inflated income and forged property appraisals to order to secure higher loan amounts, then pocketed about $500,000 from the fraud scheme.
Anita Bareja, 35, has pleaded not guilty, however, to those charges of grand larceny and forgery. She is due back in court today.
Bareja is accused of falsifying documentation, including the income of a welder earning $11 an hour was purportedly listed on an application as $15,000 a month. An alleged $1.5 million in fraudulent mortgages were secured by Bareja and two co-conspirators while she worked at EFI Capital Corp.
