CHATSWORTH, Calif. -- (May 16, 2007) --
During this time of rampant mortgage fraud, identity crimes,
backdating scandals, forgery, immigration fraud and even
threats of terrorism, Notaries work quietly behind the scenes
to protect the rights, property and identities of American
consumers and businesses. Through their role as independent,
third-party witnesses and identity screeners, they lend
trust, integrity and security to important transactions.
That's why more than 40 states and 30 nations will be
represented by nearly 1,800 Notaries, Notary-regulating
officials, and electronic document technology experts
expected to attend the National Notary Association's (NNA)
29th Annual Conference (www.NationalNotary.org), celebrating
"50 Years of Leadership, Professionalism and Trust"
May 30-June 2 in Los Angeles, CA.
The event not only offers in-depth training for Notaries
on both paper-based and electronic notarization, it also
will host the 3rd International Forum on Electronic Evidence,
attracting officials and legal authorities from around
the globe.
The four-day event, held at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel,
will offer Notaries nearly 40 career-enhancing workshops
on subjects that include professional development, notarial
ethics, and building a successful Notary Signing Agent
business. An electronic Notarization Lab will give attendees
hands-on experience and training with the highly secure
Electronic Notary Seal.
"For nearly 30 years, the NNA's annual conference
has served as the leading venue for America's Notaries
to enhance their knowledge and careers as public officials,"
said NNA Executive Director Timothy Reiniger. "In
addition to the many professional development opportunities
offered, attendees will learn more about their important
role in preventing identity fraud and forgery as well
as about the dynamic field of eNotarization."
Among the featured speakers at the Conference are keynote
speaker and tech savvy Governor Jim Douglas of Vermont,
and Judge Marilyn Milian of "The People's Court."
Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, and L.A.
Sheriff Lee Baca will also address the attendees.
The NNA will present its prestigious 2007 March Fong
Eu Achievement Award to Pennsylvania Commonwealth Secretary
Pedro Cortés for his pioneering efforts with the
Pennsylvania Electronic Notarization Initiative. In addition,
Joan Sampson, a Notary Public from Sheridan, California,
will be recognized as the NNA's 2007 "Notary of the
Year."
