Officials Question Fraud Detection Process

High levels of foreclosure in parts of Michigan have prompted law officials to question the policies and procedures currently in place to detect mortgage fraud that may have led to the increase.
Dozens of rental properties owned by landlords have gone into foreclosure. Two landlords in particular have owned title to the No. 1 and No. 2 spot for the most foreclosures in Kalamazoo County.
Rodney Hixon, a Mattawan landlord, has been investigated by the FBI. Along with the team of Larry and Terry Rask, the landlord’s had lost a combined 59 homes to foreclosure in about a year’s time. These losses cost lenders more than $4.7 million in bad debt.
