Presidential Pardon Revoked for Fraudster
|
| |
December 26, 2008
President Bush this week reneged his proposed act of clemency for a 37-year-old man who pleaded guilty to charges relating to mortgage fraud.
After discovering that the family of Isaac Robert Toussie, of Brooklyn, had donated almost $40,000 to the Republican Party, a pardon for Toussie has been withdrawn. White House officials claim they did not know about the contributions before the pardon was initiated but have made the change in decision only after recently receiving additional details about the fraud.
The Pardon Attorney has been asked to review the case. In 2001, Toussie pleaded guilty to falsifying income information in order to obtain federally-insured mortgages.
