Phony Deeds on 80 Properties

Fifteen people have been charged with forging deeds on more than 80 vacant homes in Philadelphia and selling them to buyers that had limited English speaking skills and little understanding of real estate transactions.
The unnamed suspects found abandoned homes, then transferred the properties into their own names and then sold them to unwitting buyers. In some cases, the true owners were dead and the property was passed on to relatives.
Notaries that helped prepare the documents have also been charged. All 15 face charges of forgery, perjury, theft, record tampering and other offenses.
