A $50 million mortgage fraud scheme in the Hamptons has the makings of a scandal fit for the silver screen. A former county legislator; the publisher of SoHo Journal; and his wife, the former editor of a dominatrix adult magazine who appeared in an adult film have all been accused of participating in a seven-year scam.
George Guldi, 57, an attorney and former lawmaker; Donald C. MacPherson, 65, a real estate investor and publisher and his wife Carrie Coakley, 38, adult film actress and S&M studio owner and title company owner Ethan E. Ellner, 49, have all pleaded not guilty. Dustin Dente, 37, an attorney, has also been named in the case; he faces two charges of first-degree grand larceny.
The group is accused of running a straw-buying scheme using fraudulent information and clients from the S & M studio as straw buyers. One ill-gotten mortgage was for $1.7 million.
