Siblings Take the Stand

November 17, 2008

A woman is taking the stand in a elaborate mortgage fraud trial that stemmed from a 147-count indictment involving her brother, former Evergreen Corp. President David B. Willan and 16 others in the Akron, Ohio area.

Willan faces 69 charges involving various lenders and false representation in registering securities. His sister, Sandra Langer, 52, was initially charged with over 20 felonies from when she was working at Evergreen, but only three remain after she pleaded guilty last July. She was sentenced to two years in prison, which was reduced to two years probation in return for cooperating and testifying truthfully in future court proceedings.

The prosecution believes her testimony will actually be helpful to her brother. Five others have pleaded guilty in the case as well, including Willan’s former investment sales manager, Daniel A. Mohler.
