Mentally-Challenged Son Used in Fraud
|
| |
March 6, 2009
A mother used her son to impersonate her husband to refinance the family home behind his back. The Ohio woman told the judge that she was on so many medications at the time that she couldn't even function.
Angel Allison Shaffer was sentenced to five years in prison for fraudulently securing a mortgage in the amount of $140,000. Shaffer died her mentally-challenged son's hair to match her husbands, dressed him to look like her husband and had him impersonate him at the closing, including signing his name. She then used the proceeds to pay off credit card debt that her husband was unaware of.
Shaffer's now ex-husband didn't know about the mortgage until the home fell into foreclosure. He said his credit us ruined now and told the judge he hoped his ex-wife would get the maximum sentence.
