December 1, 2008
Two men who chose to go to trial after being accused of participating in a multi-million dollar fraud scheme received stiffer sentences than most of the defendants involved.
Orsen Benn, former vice-president of Argent Mortgage Company and Samuel L. Green, a former account and regional production manager were sentenced to 18 years and 9 years respectively, for their roles in the fraud. Benn was also fined $300,000 for restitution to Argent and court costs.
Four others pleaded guilty: Scott Almeida was sentenced to 19 years in prison and Bradford Peck was sentenced to eight years, both were ordered to pay almost $125,000; Adrienne White and Frank Giffone each received five years in prison. The group submitted about 130 fraudulent loans in Florida worth $13 million.
