|
| |
May 14, 2009
An alert county assessor noticed 11 houses in were deeded to the same man for extremely low prices over a six-week period. He became suspicious.
Monterey County, Calif. Assessor Steve Vagnini also noticed several of the houses weren't even owned by the person who signed the deeds transferring ownership to Antonio Gomez, the person in question.
Some of the victims have come forward, saying Antonio Gomez stole their home from them, claiming he was from the bank and arranging a short sale for them. One couple deeded their home to him and gave him $50,000.
