Four people were arrested and a title company in Utah was searched in connection with an alleged straw buyer scheme that duped a woman who didn't understand what she was signing. Prosecutors allege that the fraudsters preyed on members of Utah's Polynesian community.
Elenoa Hosea Moala, 46; Laura Elena Solorio, 40; Haloti Moala Liavaa, 42; and Kathryn Ellen Thompson, 45; were arrested on charges ranging from communications fraud, identity fraud and pattern of unlawful activity.
Prosecutors said several victims signed a quit claim deed, turning over their property to the fraudsters. A straw buyer would then purchase the property and was given a fee for use of their credit. Three properties are listed in the complaint but officials said it's possible there are other victims.
