An attorney on trial for mortgage fraud said she was so busy doing 3,000 mortgage closings a month she wasn't even looking at what she was signing.
Victoria Sprouse said she didn't intentionally commit fraud, she just didn't pay attention to the paperwork she was signing. Sprouse told the jury how her workdays were 10 to 12 hours long and that a lot of the work was done by paralegals, a partner attorney and a receptionist.
Now she only does three to five closings a month and is financially ruined, she said. She admitted making many mistakes but denied any fraudulent wrongdoing. If convicted, Sprouse faces more than 25 years in prison for her role in the $15 million mortgage fraud scheme.
