Sentencing Takes Twists and Turns

February 23, 2009
The sentencing for two men found guilty of racketeering and theft involving a $6 million mortgage fraud scheme in the southwestern suburbs of Minnesota took some unexpected turns.
Scott R. Rosenlund, 58, was sentenced to seven years in prison. Last week, while attending his sentence hearing he was taken into custody to make $50,000 bail minutes after being told he would be allowed to remain free pending appeal. The judge then added that she would hear arguments next month about whether he should remain free at all.
Prosecutors had asked that that Rosenlund and co-conspirator Shinon Lundberg be sentenced to eight years for seven swindles totaling $6 million in a straw-buying scheme run through Rosenlund's 10Spring Homes construction and development company. Another individual, Celese Sklar had pleaded guilty but now wishes to withdraw the plea.
Lundberg was supposed to be sentenced at the hearing as well, but the judge misplaced and had not read the brief filed by his lawyer. The judge granted his lawyer's request for a sentencing delay so she could read the brief.
