December 29, 2008
After a long run of mortgage fraud schemes, a crooked lawyer was finally caught and prosecuted. His law license was revoked after pleading guilty to his crimes.
William O. Key Jr. admitted to defrauding banks and the Department of Housing and Urban Development with the help of mortgage brokers Robert C. Thigpen and Erich J. Haskell. Key played the role of the closing agent on transactions that resulted in a half-million dollar loss in foreclosures.
Key was involved in other fraud schemes as well, having served 12 months in federal prison for and other fraud allegations in a civil lawsuit against him.
