Mortgage Fraud Defendant's Wife Stabbed
|
| |
February 6, 2009
A Grand Blanc, Mich. man suspected of participating in a multimillion-dollar mortgage fraud scheme attempted to bargain a plea deal at his pretrial hearing but the notion was rejected by the judge. His wife was stabbed by an alleged victim that was duped out of $90,000.
Kurt Heintz, owner of Great Lakes Broker Funding, and appraiser James Jeffrey Fish have been federally accused of engaging in a systematic mortgage fraud scheme. Officials said Heintz and Fish falsely inflated appraised values in the $20 million scam.
Heintz and his wife, Lisa, pleaded the Fifth Amendment 97 times in an effort not to incriminate themselves in about two dozen lawsuits.
Lisa was not indicted but one man, a psychologist, claims that she and Kurt Heintz had defrauded him of $90,000 causing him to provoke violence. Police said on Christmas Eve, the doctor stabbed Lisa. He was sentenced to three years in jail.
